Not sure for humans but for most other animals heat, oxygen and other factors allowed certain animals we see even today to grow to monstruous proportions

for examples Titanoboa would grow to 50 feet long whereas the largest snake today, the anaconda grows up to 20 feet long.

Another is Sarcosuchus which would grow to nearly 40 feet long compared to the largest croc today the saltwater which grows to about 23 feet.

they even had giant centipedes and insects like Arthropleura which grew to 8.5 feet long.

Even aquatic animals such as the megalodon also grew to extreme sizes far larger then most animals in the modern day.

However the largest ever animal (that we know of) is the blue whale though new findings maybe point to certain dinosaurs being larger.

True giants have been rare and are a relative thing. Even the earliest Eastern Hunter Gatherers averaged around 6' which is normal for a lot of Northern Europe.
