I'm old enough to remember. The internet wasnt as central to people's lives as it is now. Also smartphones - didn't exist. iPhones just released but didn't really take off until a few years later. People barely had camera phones never mind phones capable of browsing the internet. Most of the internet wasn't even phone-friendly if you did have a browser on your phone.

YouTube wasn't really popular. Or using the internet to watch videos at all. Facebook barely existed. People were on bebo and MSN (basically chat). It wasn't better, it was worse. But when it was worse, society was better off.
