The Soviets were atheist and there's an civilization named piraha which were the closest thing to atheismCan’t think of any
The IVC defo worshipped gods. There have been terracotta figurines exhumed from their sites which may have been embodiments of their deities. And then there is the famous Pashupati Seal, which almost certainly represents some mythical figure of worship. They even had fire altars. The IVC did not worship Gods and lasted for a long time, so they could count as the closet "aethistic" civilization that still thrived.
Should be water at least in these circles. Since young age kids believe in ghosts for an example until "irrefutable scientific facts" prove them otherwiseI can't remember how legit the article was but basically it said that humans in general are predisposed to believing in higher powers or some shit
the ancient greeksCan’t think of any
i mean predisposed to higher powers maybe yeah but i never felt that, i always felt since i left christianity that we are in general confined as we are from birth forced into into religious customs and prejudice and also inhibited in the natural development of our spirit by soycietyatheism in a civilisation was never a thing till communism

Well yea technically they're atheist but still believe in spirits and magic. One could even say their spirits are what gods were in Greek Mythology for an example, so they would still be considered polytheiststhere's an civilization named piraha which were the closest thing to atheism
They rejected missionaries and also did not worship anything but still had an inner belief in something I can't rememberWell yea technically they're atheist but still believe in spirits and magic. Point still stands, no such thing as thriving (ancient) civilization
Their is no evidence that they worshipped any Gods, yes they did seem to have their own Gods. But no hard evidence has been found about any religious related thing except some speculations made by Arceologists. The IVC defo worshipped gods.
