The movie was released almost 26 years ago and the time of its first appearance it was seen as more of sarcasm or exaggeration rather than something close to the reality. Now, almost 30 years into the 21st century we can all agree that the character of Patrick Bateman is nothing but a reality in the modern world, as social media and the internet made their impact onto entire generations of men.

Characters like bateman have existed all through out history. Most of the world's population are biomass and and will never have physical or psychological capacity to become someone like him

The thing is that right now the world of the movie indeed does look normal but it wasn’t the case in 2000 when the society was less fucked up due to absence of social media and the success culture
