I felt the same especially when I was wearing these 3'' lift boots as a 6'1 manlet, standing at 6'4.
People would always stare at me, first at my face, then at my feet.
It was not inconspicious enough. Now I don't wear lifts. I only wear timberland boots with no lifts.
The benefit is I no longer have plantar fasciitis.
