Genuine question, if u theoretically smoke weed and sleep for like 12 hours is it still comparable to a regular 8 hour sleep. Been smoking before bed for quite a while not saying I’m sleeping 12 hours a day just wanted something to compare to

That’s a really good question! When it comes to weed and sleep, the effects can vary depending on the strain, how much you smoke, and how your body reacts to it.

In general, smoking weed before bed might help you fall asleep faster and feel more relaxed, but it doesn't necessarily mean you’re getting the same quality of sleep as you would without it.

Here’s the difference:

  1. Deep Sleep (Slow-Wave Sleep): Weed can actually reduce the amount of time you spend in deep sleep (the restorative sleep). While it might help you fall asleep and feel like you’re getting a solid night’s rest, the deep sleep cycle is important for recovery and feeling truly refreshed. Some studies show that THC (the main psychoactive compound in weed) can reduce REM sleep as well, which is linked to dreaming and emotional processing.
  2. Duration vs. Quality: Sleeping for 12 hours after smoking might make you feel rested because you’re getting more sleep, but the quality of that sleep can be different from a regular 8-hour night of sleep. You might not be getting as much deep sleep or REM sleep, even though you feel like you’ve slept longer.
So, in short, it’s not exactly the same. While 12 hours might sound like you’re getting a lot of rest, it’s more about the depth of sleep that matters. You could feel rested after a good 8-hour sleep without weed, while with weed, you might sleep for 12 hours but feel a little groggy if it interferes with those deeper stages of sleep.

If you've been using weed for a while, your body might have also built up a tolerance to the effects on sleep, so it may not be as effective in the long run as it was when you first started. Does that align with what you’ve noticed?
