Welcome to Britain's National Organ Lottery

u made a thread abt me that got ignored whilst i dont even know who u r btw
you really care that much?
the funny thing is i click on your profile a second ago knowing you would be looking at this thread or an old post of mine on your profile.

i made this thread thinking i would get some reps, cause at the time i posted that i thought i was getting ignored due to a lack of reps when really it was because of a lack of knowledge.

this ofc isnt happening. its a silly problem like all these intentionally strange takes r. its meant 4 ppl to share y they think it would be wrong. the point is that it is intuitively evil at first.
yes it’s a thought experiment

I was just originally saying I was agreeing with hunter

i’m begging you to bring up the thread where i was being autistic and was trying to dissprove to inversions that oestrogen increases iq after inversions and you provided me with misinformation, which i believed due to you 2 having a high post count and a lot of respect on the forum.

im saying to kill a randomly healthy individual and save several lives using his organs. as far as utility goes, this is based.
Even according to utility I don’t think this is the case. The whole point of the social contract is that we sacrifice certain freedoms for security. The moment the government starts to kill random people, people’s faith in the social contract would be broken.

Which you could argue would lead to more harm. You’d be correct if things only happened in a vaccum maybe.

pissing on graves is onyl seen as bad bc other ppl alive view it as mean. no harm is being done in reality so even utility belief systems dont rlly cr.

im not saying to rob the corpse, im saying to kill a randomly healthy individual and save several lives using his organs. as far as utility goes, this is based.
Even if the dead person can’t be harmed, their grave is a symbol that still matters deeply to the living. When you desecrate a grave, you're inflicting emotional harm (which is very real) on the people who cared about that person. You can’t reasonably expect someone not to be upset when someone pisses on the most tangible memory they have of their mother. I understand what you mean, but emotional harm is a real thing

yeh thats my point. dont think u understand what im saying there. if u removed them ppl, they wouldnt feel harmed and thus whats the problem?

this is vacuum'd ofc. ud feel pretty scared knowing they killed ppl in the open n it would cause different harms than written here.

I think I slightly misunderstood, when you said "no harm is being done in reality" you meant only to the person who is buried
I thought you meant that the emotional damage to those who are alive isn't real.
Anyway your original post is interesting, good read

If a vacuum, from a utilitarian view assuming all lives are equal then yes

If we assume every life has equal worth, and that letting someone die when you could have saved them is at least nominally permitting it, then it is at least somewhat evil to allow patients to die waiting for organs.

Millions have perfectly serviceable organs yet they are buried, burned, or left to fail in bodies that slowly join the receiving end. We still treat kidneys as if they are a some sort of capricious natural resource when they are something we could, in principle, requisition.

Oh boy, the National Organ Lottery has been awaiting you. Once a week, using the same database the NHS already has for GP registration, blood types, and hospital records, a set of healthy adults are randomly selected. A retrieval team arrives, they are sedated, killed, and disassembled; their organs couriered straight into those who would otherwise die in the nearing future. One body in, several out. The human op-amp. The family receives compensation funded by the healthcare costs avoided. Your QALYs were simply redistributed.

Accepting the premise that all lives are equal no longer allows you to claim one has a special claim to continued existence when others can be saved in their place. The inconvenience of being harvested does not outweigh the amount of lives saved.

We could have it nicely played after Friday's Lotto as Saturday's Organ Draw.

It makes sense from a logistics perspective and would end up saving a lot of people and be a overall positive, but humans aren’t logical (for the most part) and are rather emotional, this emotional burden of doing the lottery every year would probably be to much for the average person and we’d see a significant rise in suicide and probably body dismemberment which would be a a big negative. Overall it’s a good and logical idea in theory but in practice most humans are too emotional for it to work in my opinion

yeh ofc, i shouldve specified to think of this in a vacuum. this obvs would cause a large ripple effect but on its own, it is quite a good roi
