Went to get braces, doctor said things I don't get.

I have a decent mouth overall but my bottom jaw is 1mm recessed and makes my jawline shit, they are planning to fix this by moving my top jaw backwards.

I thought that this was a stupid Ides becuase he said that I have a perfectly developed upper jaw so why would I want to push my maxilla further back and not my mandible towards?

Anyone know what I can do or say to them?
