Were SSRIs invented with the purpose of keeping people docile?

Like people get depressed because of the shitshow that is modern society -------> they get a pyschiatrist -----> they get prescribed with SSRIs which make them emotionally blunted and lower their anxiety so they are able to cope with participating in society

Was this all planned by the puppeteers?

Would society be different it wasn't for SSRIs?
