One of my acquaintances who graduated out of college along with me in CS is soon going to do a Masters in Manegement in the US. I personally think it's pointless tbh.

You spend four years grinding out for a hard technical degree then immediately pivot into a soft degree that mostly teaches case studies, and how to talk in meetings. Feels like burning money on fire and spending two years just to rebrand yourself as management guy instead of actually building or shipping anything. And if you hated engineering so much why do this in the first place

But I kinda get where he is coming fro. Pure tech roles are very highly paid but they do hit a ceiling and a management degree can open doors that coding alone doesnโ€™t but it would make more sense to me if he actually got some experience and then got an MBA for the prestige instead of a pointless MiM degree

Makes sense. Isn't doing an MBA/MiM after a techcel degree pretty common anyways

MBA yes. MIM no. It is mostly a degree for freshers. Youโ€™re paying premium fees to sit in classrooms with other 22 year olds who also havenโ€™t built or managed anything yet. Maybe he hates tech who knows

I guess itโ€™d be a good option for those who want to pivot into consulting or sumshit. Personally Iโ€™d rather do that than remain a code monkey (I know SWEs donโ€™t write code all day, but you know what I mean lol)
