What caused the ongoing cultural bastardization

First of all, how did we even had such high of a peak considering how the average person behaves nowadays???
Back then they had classical music, used sophisticated and formal language, wore modest clothing, had traditional views..... I get that historical records are focused towards elites, but I doubt the average person had behavioral traits we see nowadays.

What made cultural debasement so rapid? It all went down in the 20th century. Declined music complexity, minimalistic designs, over usage of slangs, short-living trends... not complaining just interested in the dynamics behind it.
