after going to mongolia and seeing the people of the wilderness i noticed none of them wore glasses and i mean none, zero.

this makes me think that people who are outside more often don’t need glasses

if this is true then why is my vision perfect when i used to play ps3 all the time? i don’t remember going outside that much as a kid other than my pool. maybe it’s cuz i didn’t read or study that much as a kid?

does anyone have theories on what causes poor eyesight? when i’m in places like japan and korea, many people wear glasses. maybe it’s due to both lack of being outdoors and too much studying like a nerd

yes going outside helps prevent glasses. im not an expert but the way i understood it is that your eyes develop in the younger ages and being stuck staring at something really close (e.g a screen or being inside the whole day) will make your eyes grow in a certain way that causes nearsightness.

also very very very genetic which is far more important to consider

most eyesight issues (that are fixed with glasses alone) are minor anyway it's a small quality of life change for the wearer

this is what the average area in mongolia looks like so maybe since they look at far things constantly they don’t need glasses

@Makhachev when i do my thesis under Professor Galambos at cambridge it will be how geography has affected different cultures and specifically mongolia on their eyesight

i’ve read documents from medieval europe on the increase of near sightedness so i think it’s to do with the increase of being inside

yep. my eye doctor told me to only use digital screens for 2 hours and go outside to prevent nearsigthness. after the age of like 18-20 its pretty much impossible to become nearsighted unless you sit for 18 hours a day inside on your pc

I don't know how much screens impact the need but basically, it's all about looking distance.

Being inside: We are looking at things so close. TVs, phones, walls, and other people. all of it is literally feet apart. So your eyes don't adapt to becoming strong and they become weak. Your eyes basically look at the environment you grow up in and decide you don't need the ability to see further so they don't become strong and you become weak.

Being outside: we are looking at things miles away. Trees, sky, buildings from far away, and other people down the road. So your eyes adapt and your body realizes it needs to make your eyes strong to see further.

There are very old teachings to gain vision again, you would need to do eyesight workouts and go outside and look at things in the distance. Train your eyes to adapt again.

my theory is shortsightedness happens when you stare at things too close for too long as a child
basically your body is super adaptable as a kid, so when you focus on a close screen for hours on end at that age your eyes just remodel
themselves for that specific activity and thus cuck you into being eyecel for the rest of ur life.

it also explains why kids who do this end up shortsighted only after a year or two of consistent gaming on close, small monitors. There's no way their eyes got "damaged" that fast. I think Their eyes just adapted to this environment.

I reckon its probably not completely reversible, and theres many barriers to it anywya. Since you can't SEE screens far away you don't really feel like staring at things you can barely see so you naturally put them closer, and that's the cycle

I think they can ,sclera has viscoelastic properties and is like a container which takes the shape of the cells inside. Enough defocus can help changing axial lenght permanently , just like if u see beside ur nose ur axial lenght increases the most for that temporary time

Its caused by looking at the screen but your genetics determine how much you are affected by it.

Reading and looking at screens wares down your eyes

Lack of nutrients/hydration and lack of sunlight can also impair vision

Shit genes, poor diet and screens mostly, South Koreans are largely blind and coincidentally have the fastest internet globally

still deciding between that and oxford

Bad eyesight

impossible to not stay at screens these days. Time to pack up and build a shed in the wood and live there until you die peacefully

rotting with electronics.
