Some people say it's genetical. But I don't think it's the only reason, because then there wouldn't be so much more people with anxiety today than just a few decades ago.
First, let's define social anxiety: It's self-shame. Fear of being judged. Why do so many people have it today? Possible reasons:
- Humans are becoming more intelligent, which leads them to overthink everything, which leads to fear of judgement from others.
- Parents aren't teaching their kids how to be mentally strong anymore.
- Life is easier today, so humans don't have to go through many hardships and have more free time, meaning they don't have to be emotionally strong to barely survive.
What's your opinion? And is it nature or nurture?
