What determines height?

I know genetics primarily determine height, but what I mean is, what do the genetics do to influence the height. Meaning, are tall people tall because they have more growth hormone during their adolescents compared to short people? How does it work.

Supposedly there is a genetic pre determined MAX height


but if that was true how come people who develop Pituitary gland tumors (which causes Acromegaly = excessive HGH production) end up being like 7 foot tall when that wasn't their genetic MAX height? It's very confusing

It is very complex. There are many ways genes can make you taller or shorter.
