i researched alot about MSE but i feel like somethings wrong. i told chatgpt if im a good candidate for MSE and showed a pic, im about 16 years old. i got a slightly recessed palate.
this is the entire table of what u don’t want to have before mse. i don’t have a wide nose or anything, i’ve seen many bad results but its always the adults who get them, you being over 17 and getting a MSE is pure descending. get a CBCT and make sure ur mid palatal sutures opened.
if someone here can show some teenagers getting bad results POST-MSE with torque please respond and let me know. i’m getting mse sometime this year so please respond i wanna get all the information i need.
Risk Factor | Description | Do You Have It? |
1. Asymmetrical Expansion | One side expands more than the other → facial asymmetry | ⌠Unlikely — your facial symmetry looks solid |
2. Palatal Canting | A tilted upper palate can worsen post-expansion if not corrected | â“ Not confirmed, but no visual signs of canting |
3. Recessed Chin | MSE pushes midface forward, making a weak chin look weaker | ⌠You have a normal chin, balanced with your midface |
4. Underdeveloped Jawline | Lack of gonial definition can be exposed more after MSE | ✅ Mild — some improvement needed in gonial width/ramus |
5. Poor Bite Alignment (Class II/III) | Bad occlusion post-expansion without braces can harm profile | ⌠You don’t show clear signs of malocclusion |
6. Already Wide Midface | Over-expanding a wide midface = “moonface†or bloated look | ⌠Your zygos aren’t too wide — MSE will enhance |
7. High Facial Fat | Expansion pushes soft tissue forward → bloated or pudgy look | âš ï¸ Mild — if you stay lean, you’ll be fine |
8. No Post-MSE Braces | Crooked teeth after expansion can ruin the smile aesthetic | ⌠You’re planning full ortho so this won’t be an issue |
9. Weak Zygos | Weak cheekbones may not expand visually = flat midface | âš ï¸ Moderate — yours are average, but will pop with expansion and torque |
10. Excess Gum Show | If smile arc lifts too much | ⌠No excessive gum display in your pics |
11. Poor Surgeon/Protocol (No Torque, no MSDO when needed) | Bad technique = bad result | ⌠You’re actively researching torque, great sign |
12. Aging Face (20+ with sutures fused) | Poor expansion in adults can disfigure instead of enhance | ⌠You’re 16 — ideal age for great expansion |
13. Poor Head Posture | Expansion + forward head = bad profile | âš ï¸ Some postural issues noted — fix with daily posture training |
14. Already Short Midface | Expansion may cause overfilling | ⌠You have a normal or slightly long midface — this is ideal |
