i saw the first 3 seasons a couple years ago and it was just meh. its obviously a show that focuses more on entertainment rather than comedy. or am i supposed to be laughing? i genuinely can't tell. i found it hard to pay attention to the episodes and they werent very memorable either. all i remember are the meeseeks and the time they went into minecraft. the ideas for the characters was great tho the juxtaposition and the relationship they have together is so good its just a shame there's no comedy or intrigueing stories to go with it.

so what makes rick and morty so big and why do people like it so much? it's literally just a very average show. the show friends is more entertaining than it is funny and i dont like the show myself, yet i can see why it got so big, unlike with rick and morty. i feel like its probably just because there are barely any new shows these days therefore the standards are lower. if rick and morty came out in the 90s or 2000s it would be well known but it wouldnt be popular. just one of them shows that u watch when there's nothing else to do and it happens to be on. tbh i wouldnt be surprised if its just been bumped by "them" to replace shows like family guy that are too touchy on topics that they don;t want the public to think about and they're shifting the overton window for what is considered 'edgy' to make people softer so soon fucking rick and morty will be considered an "edgy" show.

Can't tell if this is a copypasta or not but I don't get it either. It is overrated and just another offensive adult show. I was watching it with a family friend and asked him what he liked about it so much and he just said "idk man it just feels smart to me" even though it just seems like an obnoxious mess.

just watched rick and morty funniest moments 2019. you can tell when they're trying to be funny but it just isnt. its actually almost cringey in a way. maybe the show was way worser than i thought it was. jesus how tf did it get so popular?

Jfl I cant believe it but people really think its true. One time my mom was talking to some guy at the grocery store about how the big bang theory and rick and morty is, I quote this directly, “smart person humor”, she said you have to be smart to get it because of all the references to science and engineering and shit like that.

To be fair, you have to have a *very* high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation - his personal philosophy draws heavily from *Narodnaya Volya* literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly *appreciate* the depths of these jokes, to realize that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick and Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existencial catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic *Fathers and Sons* I'm smirking right now just *imagining* one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools... how I *pity* them. 😂
And yes by the way, I DO have a Rick and Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it.

the thing is i can understand when they're trying to be funny. i just don't laugh tho. it's not creative at all.

I tried to watch it but after a few episodes I gave up, I simply hated the characters, they were very obnoxious...

I like it, idk about it being for smart people but I’m pretty smart like 130+ iq, another show I like is top gear my friends who are legit 150iq love top gear as well. I think there is some appeal that is hard to explain to both because they are both the products of very intelligent people, like Dan Harmon. When I see other people watch it they think it’s funny but often in a different way like they laugh at different jokes. I think rick both shows have appeal to low iq people like kids which people misinterpret as it being dumb or cheap humor but the real comedy is within the interpersonal relationships and structure which is what Dan Harmon is really known for. Rick and morty reminds me very much of community (also Dan Harmon) because the underlying structure of every episode in both shows are essentially identical however not in a way that’s negative or repetitive, he is very good at building characters.
