I'd make the background something that everyone can tell what it is so it actually evokes feelings in the user that sees it.

I agree 100%. The idea is good, but the execution is amateurish and leaves room for improvement. Better background and the subject of the static png image larger / more visible and clearer, as it is in this avi for ex..
