The first rule of biogenesis is that living organisms can only arise from pre-existing living organisms. This means life can only come from life of the same kind, and not from non-living matter. For example, a cow can only come from another living cow, not from non-living substances. This principle is supported by numerous scientific experiments, notably those of Francesco Redi and Louis Pasteur, which disproved the theory of spontaneous generation.
