I have seen people on this forum like @Prettyboy recommend training your abdominals directly , and say they make your abmoinals more defined so they pop out more at lower body fat percentages, which I believe is true.

My question is will training abdominals directly cause a more blocky mid section? I think that is a very unaesthetic look. I understand training obliques and other muscles would mostly contribute to this look but i have seen on other fitness forums that guys have started directly training abdominals and ended up getting a more blocky midsection.

I am using Testosterone Enanthate
yeah even then its mostly just genetics. if u have a blocky midsection genetically then training abs directly isnt ideal, but if u got david laid/jon skywalker midsection it wont hurt much. i think hgh is what really fucks midsection

It's extremely hard to hypertrophy abs, and almost impossible with standard crunches and what not. Bodybuilders who have abs get them because of things like deadlift, it thicken the waist as well.

thats bs lol. david laid spammed dls 3x a weak his waist didn't get bigger until he started roiding

I might do hanging leg raises, just really don’t want that bloated alpha destiny midsection look

Not true at all
Training abs define it and helps them to come even more better when at a low body fat

Training abs will give you a weird box-shaped trunk... They say lifting heavy weights on the big 3 lifts will make your waist thicker but that didn't happen to me (THANK GOD), but directly training them will do it... I prefer my 0.75 waist-to-hip ratio but men want anything from 1.0 or 0.9 max so be it.

Abs are one of the best muscles for functionality and even aesthetics

Easily s tier muscles to train

Extremely conflicting info on this thread. I am back to square one lol

Pointless in my opinion.

Maybe train them only when you are starting out if you have no abs, after you can easily maintain them with few times a month. Even just doing compound exercises will stimulate them just enough for maintenance.

Main focus in gym should be progressing on compound exercises and doing them intensely like a man.

Mine definitely got better after focusing them directly with multiple motions than with just inditect training from heavy lifts. The key to avoiding blockiness is either not adding weight to the exercises or only do it very lightly.

Unlike other muscle groups, abs don’t require progressive overload imo

Its mostly genetics. If u have developed midsection theres no need to train them. Especially if u do pull/chin ups.

at some point abs dont require direct work anymore. Try to skip abs exercises and soon u will realise they are useless. I absmaxxed at 14(maybe 13) years old and never trained them since. I have abs for 12+ years straight if im not wrong

Yeah that could be plausible, after all the biggest workload abs get is not in the gym, but by stabilizing our torso 24/7.

Still, those 2-3 minutes of abs training at the end of the workout sessions is not a significant time or energy drain

If you don’t directly train abs and want them you’re a retard.

You need to train them hard with weight resistance. Doing faggy crunches and planks won’t do shit.

No if you’re lean enough it won’t look blocky. It’s roiders abusing HGH that give extensive abs exercises a bad look.

The people that get blocky midsections are usually on huge doses of juice or it's just their genetics. You need to get progressively stronger at compound exercises and also do some direct ab training a couple of times a week... weighted situps, ab wheel, or leg raises with some weight are best.
