Izod was the brand synonymous with the Preppy look back in the day. Sorry if this is obvious, but the word Preppy derives from the private schools that rich people send their kids to, they were called Prep schools (short for preparation for college) back in the 70s.

True story, in my 20s I used to wear a lot of brightly colored horizontal stripped polo shirts like this because they were distinctive and I thought they looked good on the rack. Then one day when I was driving my car I saw a guy walking on the sidewalk wearing the exact same horizontal stripped polo shirt that I had, he looked so ridiculous that when I got home I threw away all five such horizontal stripped polo shirts that I owned.
