You have to consider the intermarriage between the monarchs, the shared experiences of the Roman empire, the spread of Christianity, the dark ages,All north western Europeans originate from 12-13 germanic tribes Saxons, Angles, Jutes, Franks, Goths, Vandals. All north western Europeans are more or less the same gene pool but slavs and meds that have always been distinct
They are distinct genetically, culturally and looks wise. Northwesterners have higher Western Hunter-Gatherer Slavs shifted eastward with Baltic have Steppe influence and Mediterraneans have more Neolithic farmer ancestry from the south. It's quite easy to tell them apart. NWs have taller faces, bigger foreheads while slavs have broader faces and shorter skills while meds often have darker pigmentation and more gracile features.
Slavs also lived in completely different society until just a few decades ago.
Culturally they are worlds apart. NW Europe pioneered early capitalism, Protestant work ethic and Enlightenment liberalism lkke Dutch Golden Age, British Industrial Revolution. Slavs endured Orthodox faith, Mongol/Tatar yoke, Ottoman sieges then Soviet iron fist delaying market reforms till the '90s. Meds held Roman Catholic roots, clan-based societies. No shared anything till post-WWII
Yes, they are all european now thanks to EU integration, mass migration, and shared threats like globalization. And because of ethnics migration to countries theres a somewhat shared identity across them but historically they didn't care about each other at all. Even between germanic countries there was no unity like British vs French, British vs Irish
The unfiied identity is 20th century glue. Do you see Europeans as one big family or distinct branches that rarely mixed? What's your take on a unified identity thing?
