The increasing anger from many years of humiliation from women and society got to him in the line at the bagel shop.
He just wanted to buy a bagel, and the woman there ignored him, stared at him, laughing, giggling, whispering.
That's got to be humiliating. No one deserves that. So he speaks up for himself and gets trashed for it. And of course people are defending the guy who decided violence was the correct response.
If this situation was literally any other person -- a black person, whatever -- no one would say a damn thing and they might even slander the business in the news for being anti-whatever.
But short men? Pretty much the last unprotected demographic left. It's ok to crack all kinds of hateful jokes about something they have 0 control over and if any of them ever speak up they have "short man syndrome" or whatever other dumb insult people can think of.
