I've applied to over 60 companies

1000093682

And not once have I been screened out/rejected/questioned on my digital footprint online. Nobody so far has checked it. I've received 4 different offers in US,UK and India and these aren't just small startups or mid sized companies either. Im talking about big Tech. Massive corporations

Some of my friends who are part of a
Far right wing hindutva party Bajrang Dal have also been been placed in Google, Microsoft too. These are the same people that have participated in riots, mob protests and debate and post about their extremist ideas openly on X and Instagram btw.

In corporate they only seem to check your identity card, criminal background check, employment and education verification. Like I know a few guys who had their offers withdrawn/revoked because the company found out they lied about their GPA. That's the only instance I can think of. What do you guys think? Is digital footprint a meme or is that someone i and y'all should be worried about?

Feels irrelevant unless you're trying to work at some government outfit. Every time I've applied for a job I've been accepted, and I have things attached to my real life full name and identity that could be found with a single Google search, but nothing ever comes of it.

Everything is backdoored, unless you're reaching for a sky-high position or one that may post a real risk for a sizeable portion of society a lot of companies just don't care.

Yes I've seen employerd hiring for Government jobs,Defense roles and NGOs doing extensive research and background profiling of candidates with social deep dives but corporate world i don't think it is common.

I wonder if you'd apply for government roles with the highest security clearance if they'd be able to find accounts on here and your entire browsing history

They probably don't even check these as thoroughly as you think they do. Look all these North Korean hackers using stolen IDs to get hired by US tech companies or all these /r/overemployed people with like 3 jobs.

If you know some basic fraud and can pass tech interviews that's usually enough

Raytheon and lockheed Martin has explicit permissions for this from the US government itself. I know this because one of my colleagues when I was in america had applied and they checked his socials. Raytheon even mentions this on their website in the
Pre-Employment Background check policy section @User28823 @Bryce @BeanCelll
social media and digital presence screening for roles requiring government security clearance or reputational review.

We need legislation that bans facial recognition software unless it's like for law enforcement. Also, there needs to be a widespread realisation that people can larp as others on forums, so facial recognition shouldn't even be a factor in the background check process. I hope one of these, if not both are put into practice in the near future.

I was rejected in Brazilian Intelligence due to social screening. I was approved in the exams (it was like SAT, I had to beat other candidates) and physical tests but the next year bolsonaro was elected and as I was a communist they didnt approve my application :lul:

In the Uk we have Developed vetting that’s usually for military/defence careers and they even state that they won’t typically look at private social media. Only public.

Also wouldn't them just uploading your picture on Pimeyes to do some kind of check, give Pimeyes permission to do whatever they want with that uploaded picture? That should raise serious concern.

all the other responses to this thread already are spot on

digital footprint is just fear mongering propaganda to get you to stay in line imo, they even started teaching me about it in school when i was in the third grade.

in reality there is so much lost media out there that it proves its a meme, but we obviously cant quantify it, as long as u leave urself relatively hard to trace youre good.

im more scared of kiwi farm niggas then i am of Microsoft or google when it comes to digital foot print ngl, which is weird, because wouldnt they have the appropriate resources to do even more indepth searches? idk, i feel like theres a lot of confounds and maybe even legal circumscriptions that prevent them from having so much outreach.

HR don't have enough time to screen people's background and do detective work.

Same i even made a thread about it. They are expert doxmaxxers. They exactly know how to narrow down someone's location and find their personal details with bits of pieces of information with social engineering.

Digital footprint is not a meme.
Nobody checks it unless you're joining some top tier secret agency or whatever, because it's inconvenient.
Tho finding out your digital footprint isn't some rocket science or something only big corpos can do.
It takes few hours or maybe few days to find out about your online persona.
You don't need to invest a lot to find out about someone neither do you need some authority.

If someone decides to target you, they can check your digital footprint to conspire against you & if they find out something sensitive they can easily screw you over.

The thing that’s a bit worrying is that most people want to be successful which would often require a senior position at a company or your own successful business. At that level, you’re a target and people could absolutely blackmail you for their own gains if they find comprising things about you.

It got embedded to me since I was in 7th grade so I still subconsciously watch what I say online

why would u do this?
can't remember the exact details, but he got access to my friend's account or information & was harassing him or something.
I wanted to get back at him so I started an investigation on him.
I found out about his vulgar/rape jokes comments about some girl & some cyber-crime he committed.
Then my friend sent it to police & his company.
He was then kicked out of his job, had to pay a big fine to the police & got a warning.

Digital Footprint after you join the company matters. Especially if you use real name on social media and comment something or tweet it. Like Racist Posts or Cheering for Charlie Kirk's Murder
