What does it mean when people say they are “bloated?”

I mean I’ve farted before and I’ve eaten food that’s given me diarrhea. But my stomach has never felt swollen or anything like that. Some people say that they physically “look” bloated. I have no idea what that means so what do people mean when they say this?

bloated im guessing in this context is face related, when your face retains heavy amounts of water due to over consumption of sodium causing the puffy look
