look at Squier Sonic Stratocaster (starting around $150) it is a piece of shit but it is in ur buget, it can go up to 300 so search a lot

What recommendations do you have within the 300-400 dollar ballpark

this is a strat with hss pickup which makes it more versatile and you can play pretty much any style you want

around the 220 range

a telecaster is also a great option although it's more a thing of taste and you might not prefer it over the classic strat

250-300 range


you can check out some made by ibanez for that same budget, they have nice sounding guitars
