The two sheikhs; al-Bukhari and Muslim1 mentioned a tradition narrated by Abdur-Razak from Ma’mar from Humam bin Munabbih that Abu Hurayra had said: “The Prophet (S.) said: “Allah (S.w.T.) had created Adam like His own image in sixty cubits long.” Ahmad added2 from another way by Sa’eed bin al-Musayyab that Abu Hurayra had said: “..and seven cubits wide. When Allah (S.w.T.) had finished creating him, He said to him: Go and greet those sitting angels and listen to what they will greet you with. It will be your and your progeny’s greeting. Adam went and said to them: As-salamu alaykum (peace be upon you). They said: As-salamu alayk wa rahmatullah. They added (wa rahmatullah-and the mercy of Allah (S.w.T.)). Hence he was the first one to introduce the concept of Wasi e Rasulullah (saww). He then later started to curse Hz Abu Bakr and Hz Umar, Hz Ali when received such news he went to Kufa and made an announcement.
On the Pulpit of Kufa Imam Ali said ;
"I will lash anyone who prefers me over Abu Bakr & Umar, the Lashing of a Slanderer".

Hence he was the first one to introduce the concept of Wasi e Rasulullah (saww). He then later started to curse Hz Abu Bakr and Hz Umar, Hz Ali when received such news he went to Kufa and made an announcement.
On the Pulpit of Kufa Imam Ali said ;
"I will lash anyone who prefers me over Abu Bakr & Umar, the Lashing of a Slanderer".

Hafiz ibn Kathir also writes in Al Bidayah wa al Nihaya Volume 7, "& it is proven from Tawatur that Hz Ali said on his Pulpit in Kufa 'O people the best one of this Ummah after the Prophet saww are Abu Bakr then Umar and if I wanted to say you the third name, I would do that" This was reported by 21 Shia men as well along with the sons of Imam Ali and his Companions.

However, he refused and 'Ali had him imprisoned for three days, urging him to repent but he did not and finally 'Ali had him burnt alive."
