i believe sentient life is common but sentient life capable and willing to make space travel technology and missions is extremely rare

because first the sentient life would require opposable thumbs to make tools, and it would need to be land dwelling and likely air breathing in order to make viable technological advancements to create an advanced civilization , and it would require the social cohesion to be willing to cooperate to begin with, and it would require the warlike personality traits to have outer space ambitions to begin with, which means they would increase the risk of destroying themselves with nuclear weapons or disease controlled drones if space faring technology is already viable to them somehow to begin with, which means they would already have to pass the other requirements as well, as well as be as high iq at least as white europeans since ethnics cant invent dogshit besides mudhuts, as well as advance tech for hundreds of years without destroying each other while possessing a warlike personality and be tribal since they have social cohesion behavior in their males, all while managing to evolve to begin with in the start, since sentient life is already rare af, it has only existed 200,000 years so far on earth while earths life has been around for over 500 million, and yet still no space missions to other planets like mars much less far away exoplanets

EDIT : so yeah sentient aliens could be common in aquatic fish or octopus like creatures or benelovent loving aliens with high tech but no ambition, or land dwelling bipedals with no arms to manipulate their enviroments, or be similar to tribal human ethnics living in mud huts, or have already wiped out eachother due to warlike personalities if they were air breathing land dwelling ambitious high iq aliens with opposable thumbs and high technological advancement similar to mankind here

and all of this is not even considering the fact that habitable planets to begin with are rare, just because a planet is in the goldilocks zone doesnt make it habitable, and eukaryogenesis is rare enough, with it only happening once and surviving somehow here on earth, without that one instance, earth will now be populated only by microbial prokaryotic planktons

Second EDIT: and thats not even considering humans almost went extinct by getting hunted by neanderthals and homo erectus in our early days and thats not even considering that terror birds lived in south america while homo habilis was evolving in africa so if we evolved in south america the terror birds would have made sure we got eaten out of the evolutionary race
