Being able to speak and write only one language, but having a high vocabulary and proficiency in it (>95th percentile).
Or being able to speak 3 different languages, but having low to mid vocabulary and proficiency in each (20th to 40th percentile).
For this question I am assuming the 3 languages use similar alphabets, and are not wildly diverse as that is the far more common scenario. Such as being able to speak Spanish, English and German. Not the less common scenario of being able to Speak English, Japanese and Farsi.

In before, muh... "being able to speak 3 different languages at high proficiency. "

this is a no-brainer.

always cringed at those "i speak 8 languages" people when i know they can't even communicate on those beyond a 12-yo retard tier interaction.

picking up 1 language besides your native one and persistently learning it for years is fine, but even then you won't be able to keep up with an educated and verbally intelligent person on that language.

Every polyglot videos where they show off their 5+ languages they just say basic shit like their name and that they study the language because they like the corresponding country. The wouter guy that claims 20+ languages is the biggest offender I’ve found

yeh that’s the first thing that came to my mind when learning about these polyglots. There is a limit in how much languages you can know and it’s not about brain power it’s more about time and opportunity. A bilingual person has to split their time and make sure to get proper exposure. I know tons of Hispanics that spoke english outside of their homes and 100% spanish with family and friends and they still came out no sabo. I couldn’t imagine the upkeep of 8 languages
