I'm not native English speaking so there must be people better fit to answer that question.

In my opinion you could consider that the word can have a" different meaning" to a certain degree. The use we make of it is pretty informal whereas the other you mention could be heard in serious situations.

It doesn’t mean the opposite. It’s just we are pointing it out everytime someone does it on here.

Because the catch 22 is that there is nothing “effective” about distracting yourself with entertainment as a strategy to make yourself feel better about not getting laid

We encourage facing the problems and not avoiding them. And we point out when someone is coping in regard to them.

My idea about cope.

Cope, probably means: a way to deal with a fact/given.

Alot of people, here. Dislike cope. In my opinion, not all copes are the same/equal.

A bad cope:
Claiming a fact/given is not true. And claiming other BS things, matters more.
examples:
* Looks don't matter much [false claim]. It's all about confidence [cope], bro. (and current life stays equally shitty)
* We are not going to die [false claim]. There is a heaven [cope] that I will go after death, for living a good/moral life here. (and current life stays equally shitty)

A good cope
Accepting a fact/given is true. And finding ways to "cheat" the fact/given, and improve one life.
examples:
* Looks matter [correct claim].Therefore I looksmax [cope] to improve that. (and current life gets a bit better)
* I don't have much success with dating in this Western world as a normie white man [correct claim]. Therefore I go to move/holiday in Asia/Russia/Africa [cope by locationmaxxing]. (and current life gets a bit better).
* My shit looks causes my to have no luck with dating [correct claim]. Therefore I try to become a big TV-movie producer (and thus rich and semi-famous) [cope] like a Harvey Winestein, and then I will get laid plenty.. (and current life gets a bit better if you manage to achieve this difficult goal).
