People act like my story is unbelievable, but there’s really nothing extraordinary about it if you break it down:

-Got hired to work for 3 months in the US? About 1 million foreign workers enter the U.S. annually on employment-based visas (H-1B, L-1) and I'm not even part of that figure I am just here for 3 months.

-Making $50/hr in tech? That’s the standard rate for a ITcel in my role. especially on contract roles. Check any job board. I am underpaid if anything for the roles and responsibilities

-Graduated from a top university? Sure but so do thousands of others every single year. I just worked hard, like many others.

-Bench pressing 120 kg? That’s what consistent training over 2+ years gets you. It’s only impressive for someone who has never set foot in the gym. Also posted proof to gymcels here

-Splurging on ralph lauren and watches ? I had zero living costs in university. my parents covered my expenses. I saved all the money I earned from internships and freelance work that I already showed.

-Your IP keeps bouncing? Yeah I use Cloudflare WARP. It’s a free tool anyone can download. Even you can do it. I also freeze my IP sometimes with WARP+ Teams

-How were you in the army? I did serve in the army youth. I literally posted my medals and my pictures in full uniform on here a 2 years ago. Again millions of people do this every year and I joined like 30+ clubs in college

-You can speak German? Yes I can. I had to learn a foreign language as a part of my course i picked german. I thought if I was learning german I might aswell learn it properly and go all the way to make it another life skill so I went all out and learnt it. I even send @deadstock a vocaroo of me speaking in german

-Why are you always online? I'm awake at all hours because I work in DevOps.This isn't some cozy 9-to-5. I'm on-call for incidents. If a system breaks at 2 AM, I'm the one fixing it. Ask anyone in DevOps it's demanding and 24/7 but roles do get rotated which is why I was very inactive last week

So what part of this is supposed to be “unbelievable”? Please tell me what kind of great superman work did I do for people to question me? Did I land a rocket on the moon or did I become a billionaire overnight. What is so unrealistic about a 20-year-old Indian guy doing IT work in the US who was part of the army club and did freelancing in uni?

Why are people obsessed with bench pressing. I never do it, always use machines and barely do compound exercises. When someday randomly the gymcells were challenging me with bench press I could barely put 60kg in the air… They made a big fuss about it, I couldn’t give a single fuck tbh...

Compound movements like bench press, squats and deadlifts are good indictions of strength. Machines are good for targeting specific muscles, but they kinda do half the work for you since they stabilize the movement. So if you never do compounds, your raw strength might not show up when you're put on the spot with something like a barbell bench. You can also lift a lot of weight in bench press, deadlifts and squat which feels validating. it's like the gym bro rite of passage. Doesn't mean machines are useless though, just different goals.

Nah the stabilization of the movements is actually a good thing, its designed like that to ensure the muscle gets the proper stimulus. I’d say the main problem with machines and gyms in general, at least, of what I’ve seen in my area is most machines are bilateral, so most of the time if you have a stronger arm or whatever, that arm will making like 80/85% of the work…
