High-set narrow & straight noses are more aesthetically pleasing & more of a progressive human evolutionary trait. Whilst, low-set broad & flat noses are more of a neotenous trait. Also, due to white beauty standards dominating the globe within the last 500 years as well (now most people want high nose bridges). A flat nose has no negative effect on survival since it is mainly found in tropical populations (i.e. sub-Saharan Africans, Southeast Asians, Central Americans). The mainly reason why some people consider it ugly is because is it generally low & bulbous, while high nose bridges are angular & sharp, & look more high class. Hope this answers your question.
