If you don't know what it is, it is when a large mass of people remember a name of smth or a event different then it actually happened.

The name came from many people believing Nelson Mandela died in prison, despite him dying several years after being released.

Seriously, asked some people from that time where he died, many still believe he died in prison, its crazy.

Some of the biggest cases of mandela effect:

The dialoge in Starwars isn't: "Luke, I am your father"

its actually "No, I am your father"

The monopoly man never had a monocle

The show is named "Sex and the city", not "Sex in the city" like most remembered

PIKACHUS TAIL WAS NEVER BLACK AT THE END

How can all this be explained? Post your theories and tell me other examples of this effect!

My brain deforms the way I remember interactions here
Because of the search feature I can go back and suddenly the words are different

How did the thing with Mandela dying spread so wide then?

And I don't think I ever talked about "Sex and The city", only saw ads, and still was shocked that it wasn't called "Sex in The City"

That mandela got no bitches cause he was ltn

Most of it is easily explained:
The Monopoly Man Wears the same top hat as Mr. Peanut. Mr Peanut wears a monocle.

Everyone did a Darth Vader impersonation back in the day, it just makes more sense when immating Darth Vader to include a reference to Luke, to signal to people you are doing a Darth Vader impression and not just being a creep.

"Sex and the City" is indistinguishable in sound and meaning from "Sex in the City", so I don't know why this a thing.

You don't remember things exactly as they are and your brain creates patterns.

The monocle is very stereotypical. Pikachu's ears have black on them, as does Pichu's tail

Look at a picture of a family member from years ago, you probably wont remember them looking like that. Your brain adjusts to the gradual changes over the years.

Who tf is Mr. Peanut. I don't think he exists in Germany and I still remember the monocle

people in internet want to turn Mandela effect into a conspiracy evolving multiverse and other dimensions but it's just a psychological effect and easy to explain.
we remember things by correlations and connectivity of images and sounds and events. our brain is not always accruate, to work at high speed we sometimes choose the easiest route to connect dots in our brain.
we remember Mandela got into prison, we know politicians who go into prison usually die in there so our brain assumes and records as if he died in prison.

most of our memories are based on assumptions rather than facts.

Try remembering one of your childhood memories right now, i'm 100% sure it's not accurate. when your brain accesses old memories, they are vague and faded, so it will try to refill the gaps based on assumptions.
and sometimes a group of people who happen to be same species (ffs) do the same assumptions and end up remembering something similar.

also Nelson Mandela’s death from which the theory took the name, definitely not completely false when many people from all over the world feel the same towards certain events who is incompatible with the official datation or remember the same quote from a movie different from the official quote like you pointed out

Ik what you mean. Your brain is just highly adaptable, probably mostly on an unconscious level. It's like when you get stck on a level in a videogame and cant beat it no matter how hard you try. Then a few days later you beat it easily on your first try. This applies to everything really.
