I personally think it's either self-actualization or continuing your lineage.
Self-actualization means you make the best out of your genetic potential, meaning you looksmax, take care of your health and do the things that you really like and bring you joy (money doesn't matter, as long as you're not starving), free from shame or peer pressure.
Continuing your lineage might be obvious, as humans are made to reproduce. But I'm not sure tbh, as the biological drive is just the sex drive, and today we can have sex without reproduction and having kids is tied to so much things that can ruin you.
Things I don't believe:
- I'm not religious.
- I don't believe in a soulmate/true love, you can have a good LTR but that's it.
- Not everyone is a genius and can achieve something great, so your professional career most likely won't fulfill you.
- I wish finding happiness in itself would be a good purpose, just read stoic philosophy, meditate, take mushrooms, etc., but I don't think it's true, happiness has to come from something and it's not always desirable (for example, when your life is genuinely bad).
- All this talk about AI, technological singularity and immortality is nice, but we will all be dead when it happens, so it's over for us anyway. Maybe cryonics will save some people?
What are your thoughts?
