I agree that there are good-looking South Asians as well, so on an individual basis, there would be exceptions. It's just that most South Asians I see are just ugly. And that includes the South Asians that were born and raised in the west; with proper diets and whatnot.

Well, I'll make sure to avoid calling us a race, then. And no, Pakistan should be part of the definitive South Asian world. This is because of the Indus Valley Civilization, since the Indus Valley itself is located in Pakistan (the areas around the Indus river). Afghanistan is kind of.. out of place. They are neither West Asian, nor South Asian, nor Central Asian. Kind of their own thing, and that makes sense considering their geography. Mountains acted as natural barriers between peoples, so that's why we don't have more East Asian ancestry and why East Asians don't have South East Asian ancestry; the mountains blocked the movements of our peoples. Also, while you make a decent point, I would argue the phenotype is the outcome of the genotype, and the reason why South Asians look the way we do is exactly because of the AASI/SAHG ancestry that we have. The more you have of it, the more South Asian you look. But there are exceptions. I have seen Jats from Haryana that looked just like regular northerners, even though they have like 20% AASI on average.

It's the religion and the cultural practices that emerge from the religion that creates that feeling of familiarity. Since Indians are Hindus, there is no feeling of familiarity, except for the cuisine, but even that will still have its differences.

rakhigarhi (which is in india) was the largest urban center of the misnomer civilization of ivc.

I would agree with this however that just means there’s more genetic variation with mestizos and castizo than they are with Southeast Asians. Being homogenous isn’t a good thing if your features aren’t striking or attractive on average.
