What is with old bald white guys with goatees and ear rings?

Why is this such a popular look with white guys in their 50s and 60s that are not over weight? It exists occasionally with fat guys and clean shaven guys and younger guys and non white guys, but it ridiculously common among old white guys that are relatively fit and have goatees.
