it was the flag of Tamil sepretist rebels during the srilankan civil war, half my family fought for them. They were formed in response to the Tamil genocide in srilanka. Revolutionised suicide bombings and had one of the most succesful guirrela campaigns throughout the 20th century. And yes they were marxist like most 'freedom fighting' movements of that century

Finally defeated in 2009 by the Srilankan government finally after decades of direct intervention with Indian army assistance (the indian campaign against the Tamil rebels was considered their own 'vietnam'). Also the Iraelis and British helped the srilankans alot. The final months of the war were especially brutal since the Srilankan army finally smelt blood and decided to not hold back against civilians; entire towns were wiped off the map.

nah the anti-tamil laws in srilanka got undone and the younger generations dont care about racial violence anymore

However, it seems bittersweet knowing the rebels that gave their lives to fight for tamil rights are just labelled 'terrorists' and that the genocide will never be recognised by the UN since it didnt happen in the Northern Hemisphere.
