In his biography it says he arrived from Cuba as a kid with his poor family and in a few years they became millionaires by starting a perfume company.
Sounds like complete bullshit though, they were more likely drug dealers or something and the perfume company just a cover.

Maybe he was also a drug dealer or something for Hollywood people, there are some guys who managed to become famous actors, by doing other jobs in Hollywood first and after they had enough connections they also started to receive roles in movies.
