What makes a certain facial feature attractive?

Usually its things like jaw which signals healthy development... hunter eyes = fighting success etc

theres like weird evolutionary reasons. but the problem is a jaw that is TOO big or eyes that are TOO hunter become ugly despite having the logical reason behind it

Proving that it may just be about aesthetics and sexual selection towards them aesthetics.

But what makes something aesthetic? and why do all of these features tend to stem from evolutionary reasons but be more about aesthetics?


Basically is it sexual selection aesthetics or evolutionary reasons behind what makes a certain facial feature attractive?

Probably because girls subconsciously want good offspring so good aesthetics are sort of an indicator or just good harmony

Basically is it sexual selection aesthetics or evolutionary reasons behind what makes a certain facial feature attractive?

If you are fat it is indicative of inactivity, weakness, etc. which are bad indicators for mating.

On the other hand, if your jaw is extremely developed as you say, you look extreme and unusual, this is bad because it can cause you to be alienated, which means a woman is unlikely to want to interact with you as it would potentially alienate her and or her offspring (bad genes).

It just so happens that aesthetics/attractiveness are selected for and are correlated with success in the wild.

tldr extreme on both ends is bad (some cases worse than others, obviously).

Any trait which is too out of the ordinary may signal some sort of genetic disease that would reduce the offspring's fitness. This is also why more average faces are found attractive, because it is an indicator of good health. I dont think its just aesthetics, in my opinion aesthetics is completely subjective so the only objective anchor is the evolutionary explanations.

I'm not sure on the reason of it myself. However average is seen as attractive. Deviating too much from the norm is a looks min.

The more people are exposed to a face the more attractive they find them. So being average could be related to that(?)
