I was going to first say classic hard metalcore stuff like Converge, but try out some of the electronic greats like Aphex Twin, Daft Punk etc. However, for more extreme genres see into RateYourMusic. You can find a genre you deem interesting and try out the highest-rated albums for it for a start?

Always ask her for recommendations while you're at it, something this place does not teach you for some reason.

However now and then an artist is unique and appreciative. But can't grasp and wonder why, it's a purgatory. My example was an extreme one. Don't think I've ever listened to any album 20+. All music is not equal and deserves better chances so to get to that conclusion isn't always as simple sometimes. My only standard is to not be boring.
