What parts of Mexico are the safest ?

I’be been practicing my Spanish but I refuse to travel to Mexico before I become fully fluent. I’ve been studying Spanish for many years but haven’t been able to practice with anyone. I live in the USA in a white town. There are girls who have liked me but that was in the past. How do I travel to Mexico without getting my gringo ass kidnapped? I’ve been to third world countries but Mexico seems like a great place to go missing.
