What should I look out for when searching for a maxfac surgeon?

I've been offered jaw surgery from my public healthcare system to fix my micrognathia, however I'd be assigned a random surgeon and I'd have zero say in the aesthetic result as the surgery would be treated as functional only.

So I'm going the private route, but I don't know which surgeon to go for. I live in Italy, so technically I have close access to the most popular surgeons on this site (Raffaini for example is maybe a 2 hours drive away), but I'm not sure if I can trust him or the other ones with the huge amount of bad reviews they get regularly.

While I'm looking for the best results possible, I also don't want to end up botched and descend further from what I am now.

My question is, how do I find how good a surgeon actually is? A couple good results don't mean shit if the other 95% are underadvanced botches. And with there being very little information on more local surgeons, how do I figure out which one of those is decent?
