I don’t know whether I should get an x-ray first, see an orthondist first or call a surgeon right away for a consultation or even a sleep-apnea specialist to decipher whether or not I do have a recessed jaw.. where do I start?

Consult a surgeon. If your end goal is surgery that's what you should start with. They will probably tell you to get a sleep study and they will have an orthodontist in mind.

YES
consult a good one tho, and/or be prepared with questions to understand if he'll be suitable for the aesthetic outcome you want

I called two. They both required a referral from an orthodontist or dentist first

ok, but make sure to not go to your typical braces farm ortho (also don’t go to a dentist ofc, they don’t deal with this shit at all)

you will need to find an ortho who works with this type of stuff, look in your area, might need to look further

also how do you not know if you are actually recessed, typically if you are it is extremely apparent

pagnoni italy comes off the top of my head as a good guy in europe

That’s the problem, all the orthos around me just seem like just your typical invisalign dealers 😞
I live in dusty ahh MI where not a lot of people really do surgery. I could imagine it’s easy for these types of things in NYC, Miami or LA areas where cosmetic surgery is common..

Idk.. all my friends and family tell me that they can’t tell, and they say I just have body dismorphia. And my ortho never pointed out any recession (but I don’t think he gives af about those details unless it’s a major deformity, he just wants to sell his fucking invisalign and out the door I go). But people here tell me I’m chopped. I can show you what I see in a dm..
I’m personally not happy with my appearance, and I correlate that with my results with women honestly. But everyday just tells me I look fine.

You can’t base your opinions off of anyone IRL, they don’t even know what a maxilla is.

You should know whether you’re recessed or not. It shouldn’t be based off of anyone else’s opinion. You should be able to take a picture of your face from front and side angles and determine if you are recessed. You probably have this knowledge bc you have like 2k posts on this forum.

Get a full face CBCT or CT scan (skull and soft tissue), then go consult.

Yes I always knew I was recessed im just sick of friends and family telling me I’m not because 1. are trying to make me feel better and 2. do not understand beauty aesthetics and the importance of bones when it comes to attractiveness
