English sucks because it orders and names only 3 broad stages of a platonic relationship: acquaintance, friend and best friend, thus it's a bit difficult to understand whom "a friend" really is if you limit yourself to thinking within that linguistic constraint. I would say a friend is generally just someone in whom you can confide with your problems and secrets

A friend is someone you can hangout with go out with but will not be there for you in dire situations.

A friend will not give you emotional support,

a friend will not feed you or put clothes on your back, a friend will not let you sleep at their place for a few days,

a friend will not pay a penny of you ur rent

a friend will not help you payback a loan a friend is just someone you sort of get along with

only family or a maybe very very close friend from childhood (brother basically)

friends friendship is also conditional, if you look ugly, get depressed or stop being fun, or become poor. your friend will no longer like you and will detest you and no longer be your friend

friends are not really friends, but people to use for fun and social connections for anything you want. Maybe a job, updates on the latest party upcoming, new bonfire by the beach or woods, new club they find, and or course new girls they know for you to meet.

Pretty true unless it's a "best friend". Those tend to be pretty unconditional. Then again, is any relationship truly unconditional? Even family has their limits.
