What to ask barber to get rid of volume on back and sides.

My hair is getting thick on back and sides.

After shower I slick back sides and it looks tight but it’s hard to style. What do I ask barber so he can get rid of this density/mass of hair on back and sides so it looks tidy and high class?

I don’t want it short like a taper.

you literally just tell them that the hair is getting thick on the sides or whatever and you'd like them to thin it out.
They are barbers/hairdressers, they are supposed to be qualified for this. You as the client dont need to be qualified.
