What to do with my palate/teeth

I'm getting Damon braces pretty soon, which I know should be pretty beneficial, but my orthodontist said nothing about a palate expander; however, my tongue can't rest on the roof of my mouth without it touching like my premolars. Will the braces fix that problem, or do I also need a palate expander as well? My only worry is idk if my family can afford that, but I am getting a job soon, so maybe I could pay them back.
Edit: I get my braces in just under a week. Did I wait too long?

Smite your ortho for being a retard, bring it up to them about palate expansion and state your case, it seems like you need it from the photos. If they reject it go to another orthodontist because they clearly don't give a shit about how your face looks.

Depends, I've seen other people on this forum say they couldn't smell anything or breathe through their nose and the ortho still wouldn't check their airways or do palate expansion... Honestly though it should be enough if they aren't braindead, I'd prepare some other symptoms before just in case.
