So I'll be getting braces next month and I'm kinda nervous if my doc will fucking rape my maxilla backwards. What should I tell my doc to keep my maxilla intact/giving it forward growth with braces. Or is braces not worth it and just waste of money

theres so much fearmongering around braces your not going to become recessed because of braces unless your ortho is a complete dumbass also if you have an overbite your gonna be doing the opposite of becoming recessed you should be able to get more forward growth if your ortho is smart

you need added appliances such as herbst appliance, bite blockers, etc. although there is some fear mongering with some appliance such as herbst appliant with it recessing the maxilla because it puts added force onto the upper molars and pushes them back but it does not recess the maxilla (it does stop the maxilla from forward growing while the appliance is on though, the appliance itself is only on for about 2-5 months depending on your overbite so nothing to worry about) to clarify most of these appliances are only going to help with jaw recession and forward growth not midface but herbst appliance literally pulls the lower jaw forward eliminating recession

if the bands are misplaced they can cause recession, the bite blockers mostly only help with teeth alignment
