It wouldn’t have done much tbh. The wall wasn’t so much as a physical barrier but a symbolic one to illegals. It was basically saying to them that you are not welcome, and that crossing this barrier meant you will be tracked down and put back to your starting point. Therefore it didn’t matter if the wall was finished or not, the message was clear.

Honestly the wall would’ve been a waste of resources, it would’ve been far better to pressure Mexico to stop the illegals.

It is, but the gov still has some control. And tbh it wouldn’t have been worth it for the cartels to tackle with the US in this matter. If Trump was serious enough, and actively sent Troops to the border to tackle the illegal immigration, it would’ve disrupted the cartel logistics. Cartel leaders would be smart enough to realize this, and then have their lackey cops to do Trumps bidding within reason.

The situation now is actually little different Than when trump was in office from what I remember. Ice is still doing its job, the internment camps are still functioning, etc. only problem is that now with Trump gone the symbolic msging is also gone, so illegals think that America is safe to illegally immigrate too even though it’s not.
