Well, I'm older, and back when I was a kid we didn't have all these things in Romania you people have now: Internet, computers, video games, smartphones, social media, not even cable TV, we only had one TV channel - can you imagine this!!!?
So people socialized more, no one was sitting inside all day, because there was nothing to do there, people met, talked to each other, every apartment building had a few benches outside where people sat, discussed, eventually played chess, cards, or other games, kids and teens would usually play football or other ball games, etc...
Schools and universities usually had these activity clubs dedicated to science, technology, electronics, sci-fi, etc. where the nerdy types would meet and talk in person about their favorite things, do experiments, exchange books, magazines and comics, etc.

Now, almost everyone is inside, they're on their phones, laptops, on the internet, on social media, etc...People only go outside just to go from point A to point B, no one is just sitting outside on a bench or in the park to talk and socialize with others, we are getting more and more isolated as technology advances.
