"What would the world have to look like for it to be non hypergamous" could be read in the manner of

What would the world have to look like, in order to be classified as non hypergamous

or, as you've interpreted

To reach a non hypergamous world, what would have to happen, which barely applies given "Have to look like", as opposed to "Have to be done"

crazy how you cant understand a simple sentence, sad

Many sentences can have different interpretations, you haven't exactly stated why mine is wrong

You're also free to ask OP what he meant.
if he meant to ask what it would look like he would've just put "what would it look like" not, "what would it HAVE (im not sure you understand the meaning and role of this word in the sentence) to look like"

"have to look like" is sort of oxymoronic, have to as in "a guaranteed action" and look like referring to a prospect, assuming, something not real or true, its like a double negative or two opposites if you get what I mean here

It doesn't HAVE TO look like anything, it's an open ended question that you're asking us

I don't think "have to" insinuates anything about how the sentence is meant to be taken im sort of just hung up about getting called a dumbass for a slightly different interpretation

Youre entitled to yours as well
