Both of them seem to have the same dynamics. The average guy has a 99% failure rate when swiping on women. Likewise if you're looking for a job, it's going to be very difficult with similar % success rates.

If you're a chad (or have a 'good' CV with experience) maybe the success rate is higher. But you will still have to go through multiple hoops and losses. Likewise if you're above average or less, you lose all hope you start applying for jobs you're overqualified for / start swiping on fatties and women who look like homeless prostitutes. It's even more brutal when you can't get these either.

A date is harder

I don’t have a job but I have an easier time getting a job than a girl guaranteed to turn up for a date or not flaking. So yes a date is harder to get shockingly

Depends on the job some jobs will hire you on the spot (shit ones)

Depends on the job and the foids SMV. Cushy high paying jobs are probably harder to land than pulling LTB via old

And blue collar minimum wage shit is easier to get than pulling a htb on tinder/bumble/whatever

I think if I put the same effort on looksmaxxing as I do for getting an engineering job in college it would be way easier

It's around 40 hours a week for coursework + homework (being conservative)
5 hours doing leetcode or other forms of interview prep
5-10 hours of applying
10-15 hours doing research at uni for resume/being a TA/extracurriculars

All in all, you are doing 80 hours a week before getting the privilege of wageslaving

If I took 80 hours a week on looksmaxxing, going on multiple apps, using non-dating apps for dating, maxxing out Insta, did snap quick add on random whores etc, it would be way easier to eventually get some MTB.

That's true. But you need thick skin to spend 80 hours a week using an OLD app. I think most guys would (finally) do well. But they would need to go through hell and back.

Ive been off apps for the last 8 months. Gotta say it's worth it.

I think it's only because it's not socially acceptable. Every guy kinda thinks that OLD is a scam, but they don't apply the same logic to getting a job. For me, getting a job obviously seems like a bigger scam, but because other people don't really see it that way, you will get left behind if you don't keep up. If you are out of the dating game for a year, it doesn't really matter. The same creep might happen with OLD eventually. Obviously, the social circle option will always exist but eventually so many people will be terminally online and insular that it's going to be like the whole "go into the trades" thing.
